Mary & Luke's wedding in Cong Mayo

31st October 2017
I first met Mary last year when she was looking for a photographer for her wedding.....we had a chat in the studio and I found her very easy to talk to and was delighted when she touched base shortly after to book me.
One thing that did worry me was Mary mentioning that her fiancé Luke wasn't a great man for the camera and wouldn't have much patience for same. Indeed when I met them both shortly before the wedding, Luke was quick to point this out again and I was a small bit anxious as to how the day may pan out.....I needn't have worried, it was class!
There was a lot of nice surprises on Mary and Luke's big day which made it extremely enjoyable for me.
I arrived in the Lodge on wedding morning accompanied by John Murphy of Avalon Video to capture Mary's preparations.
It was a treat to realize that I knew Mary's bridesmaids Assumpta, Corina and Angie.
Assumpta is a great supporter of my facebook page and always leaves some nice comments on images....and indeed Angie and I used to work with each other in a past life so it was a nice way to start the day.
It was also a treat meeting Luke and his groomsmen and it was particularly satisfying to see how accommodating Luke was regarding the photos. Luke's groomsmen Donal, Noel and Pat are good people and indeed it was a treat to meet up with Donal again. Donal's sister Caroline introduced me to my wife Elaine many years ago and we would have crossed paths quite a bit in our courting days way back in time....when Peacocke's in Maam Cross was thriving! Donal is always in good form is great company so it was good to see him again on wedding day. One thought that springs to mind was one time I wasn't so pleased to cross paths with him. I was running the Connemarathon (half marathon I should add) and after a few miles was struggling on the hills and could hardly catch my breath......Donal appears on my shoulder ready to talk for Ireland...the last thing I needed. I was blowing bubbles and couldn't get any words out with tiredness yet Donal was ready to put talk down a bottle....had to make excuses and set him free that day but it was great to be in his company for Mary and Luke's wedding.
After the Civil Ceremony which took place in the Lodge, we did some family and bridal portraits outside before the bell was rung for family and friends to retire to the restaurant for some nourishment.
With belly's full, some guests went for a stroll after the meal while Mary and Luke visited some loved ones in the cemetery close by (lovely touch) before dropping into their local for a quick pint.....I think if time allows it, this is always a cool thing to do.....it's rare to be in your local with your wedding dress on so it really is a unique photo opportunity!
Another two people that experienced all of this with us was young Ava and Jamie...two of the most wonderful kids you could come across. I regularly work with young kids on wedding days and on occasion, some of them can get hyper or indeed tired and cranky and have reason not to "play ball" when it comes to the photography side of things.....Ava and Jamie were top class however...can't say enough good things about these young kids, well done lads!!
Our final port of call was back where we started that morning at the Lodge where all Mary and Luke's guests gathered and gave them a very warm welcome back as husband and wife.
Thanks Mary and Luke for trusting me with your wedding photography.....I have a lot of great memories from your big day and I'm truly grateful for that. Until we cross paths again, mind yourselves!!
